Women are re-inventing what it means to be a bride, and Rhode Island is ahead of 2the fashion curve.

Wedding separates are now very much in demand. For those of you who might be a bit fuzzy on the subject, this is a trend that basically involves your gown being made up of different, unique pieces. You can choose a top, skirt, jacket, shrug, or whatever fits your body type best. “Rhode Island brides are some of the most creative,” says Harper Della-Piana of Seams Couture. She works out of her studio in Providence; and through her Etsy store, ships to nations as far as Australia. For local brides, her gowns are completely customized. The growing trend of separates has consumed her recent orders.

“It makes the investment of a gown easier to swallow,” she says, which is what we love about these adaptable gowns. Separates can be added and removed for your ceremony, cocktail hour, reception and beyond. The jackets and overlays are great for modest brides. Open backs and shorter tops are perfect for showing a little skin. Not to mention, these pieces make for re-usable formal wear.

They’re not necessarily just for informal weddings, either. Separates are fit for everything from the most lavish affairs to laid-back backyard ceremonies. High fashion and frugal wedding trends are typically few and far between, and utilizing separates can reflect the true dynamic nature of your lifestyle.
