Oliver Ellsworth Homestead History
The Oliver Ellsworth Homestead, also known as Elmwood, is a historic house museum at 788 Palisado Avenue in Windsor, Connecticut. Built in 1781, it was the home of the American lawyer and politician Oliver Ellsworth until his death in 1807, and was designated a National Historic Landmark because of this association. Ellsworth (1745–1807) helped draft the the United States Constitution, served as the third Chief Justice of the United States, and was a United States Senator from Connecticut. The house is owned and maintained and operated as a museum by the Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution, and is open for tours upon request.
Matthies Hall, at the historic Oliver Ellsworth Homestead in Windsor Connecticut, can be the site of your upcoming event. The Hall is situated on the grounds of the Homestead, in a lovely rural setting, with mature trees and large lawns. The Hall itself is set back from the road, to give you a feeling of privacy and openness. The dominant feature of the property is the historic, colonial Oliver Ellsworth House museum. The traditional-style Matthies Hall nestles at the back of the property, backing up to woods.
