Pantone swatch for EngagedIt’s a new year, and according to Pantone — the color authority — tangerine is out. Pantone’s “it” color for 2013 is emerald, and what better to celebrate this magnificent hue than to make it the star of (or an accomplice in) your wedding palette.

Why emerald of all colors? Aside from being a precious gem, emerald signifies growth, renewal, prosperity, healing and unity. If going all green isn’t to your liking, consider mixing and matching. Sound risky? Not for this color. Emerald is one of the best (and easiest) colors to coordinate. Create a woodsy feel by combining lighter and darker tones — perfect for outdoor weddings. Since emerald is such a rich color, think about accenting it with a bright secondary color or jewel tone, such as purple. Consider this: For reception tables, pair emerald seat cushions with purple menus or centerpieces to create an elegant, regal look. Or consider pairing emerald with gold — now that screams luxury! Gold in this case would be your accent color. Another successful palette is pink, gold, mint and emerald. These four colors complement each other beautifully and will give your decor a girly, preppy vibe.
