This gorgeous Independence Harbor wedding proves that April can bring the showers and the flowers.

The Meet-Cute

A dating site and the Navy brought together two people who most likely would not have encountered one another otherwise, with Krista being a native Rhode Islander and Jose hailing from Florida. “We met on Match.com; we connected when Jose was stationed up here,” says Krista. “Yes, it really works!”

The Proposal Story

Two years later, on the day after Christmas, Jose brought Krista back to the location of their very first date: Gillette Stadium. “We went ice skating at the rink they have there, and unbeknownst to me, he had asked the employees to make a special announcement,” Krista recalls. “They broadcast that Jose had a message for me, and before I knew what was happening, he was down on one knee right in the middle of the rink with a ring in his hand, asking me to be his wife.”

The Venue

Krista and Jose were immediately drawn to Independence Harbor’s grounds. “They are absolutely gorgeous!” Krista explains (just take a look at those stunning cherry blossoms if you need proof). “Also, the food there is absolutely delicious.”

The Date

“We chose springtime because of the flowers that were in season,” Krista says. “I knew I wanted peonies for my bouquet, and they come out during that time.” As for the threat of April showers, she admits that the forecast made her a nervous wreck, especially when it started pouring as she was getting ready on the morning of the wedding. “But someone was definitely looking over us that day,” she says, “because it cleared up right as I was about to walk down the aisle and we were able to still have our ceremony outside.”

The Bridal Party

While Krista originally wanted to have an even number of members on each side, she now believes that the final result turned out much better. “It let us include all of the people that are important to us: my cousin was my maid of honor and Jose’s groomsmen consisted of all of his best friends from his hometown in Florida as well as his younger brother.”

The Ceremony

When Jose saw Krista for the first time on their wedding day walking down the aisle towards him, he was, “just thinking about how beautiful she was in that dress. It was exactly how I imagined she would look,” Jose says. “I also realized that I’m the luckiest that I get to spend my life with her.” Clearly, Krista found a winner, too.

The Dessert Spread

Though the couple kept a majority of their details in line with age-old wedding traditions, they went off book for this important decision. “I really liked the idea that there was a variety with the spread rather than one choice of cake,” Krista says. “Gotta give the people options!”

The Highlights

“One of my favorite moments was just taking a minute to myself during the reception and watching everyone dance and have a great time with each other.” — Krista

“Mine was definitely our introduction at the reception — we had a wrestling-themed entrance! It was actually pretty epic.” — Jose
