How We Met

Matt and I first met through his best friend, Greg. They used to visit his girlfriend at the time (who is now his wife), Lauren, at the restaurant we worked at every Sunday. At first, I wasn’t interested in Matt until one weekend Lauren invited me to come with her, Greg and Matt to St. Patrick’s Day in Newport. I never had been, so I thought it would be fun. That day, Matt and I hung out, enjoyed a lot of beers and the connection started. From then on, Matt would take me on dates. He took me to my first Bruins game and I took him to his first Celtics game. I was turning 21 at the time and I wanted to go sky diving. Even though I could tell Matt wasn’t into it, he jumped out of that plane to impress me. From that point on, I knew Matt would be the perfect man for me. After a few months of dating, we made it official and six years later here we are still going strong.

Our Proposal Story

Matt and I planned a trip to Paris and London with our best friends Pat and Ashley. We had this trip organized for a few months with locations and sites we wanted to see during our eight day adventure. Matt, in true fashion, winged the entire proposal from start to finish (besides the design of the ring itself). He did, fortunately, design it himself and it had shipped just in time before we left for our trip. Matt, knowing that I like to organize our luggage and bags for the trip, enlisted our very helpful friends to see if they would be able to hang onto the ring during the trip so I wouldn’t find it. Thankfully for them, Matt proposed on the second day of our trip so they didn’t have to keep it the entire trip. On April 16th, 2018, we woke up in our hotel and had our plans for the day not in any order, but an idea of what we wanted to do. We ate breakfast at the hotel and discussed which site we’d like to go to first. The four of us decided on the Cathedral of Notre Dome. At this point, I am still unaware of the occurrence that is about to happen. We grabbed an Uber to bring us to the Cathedral. As we approached this beautiful building, Ashley and I jumped out of the car and were ahead of the boys. She was trying to distract me as Pat handed Matt the ring out of his back pack to put in his own pocket. We came across this gorgeous meadow of flowers so we decided to take a picture with the Cathedral in the background. I took Pat and Ashley’s photo first and then they offered to take our picture. As I was getting ready to smile pretty, I looked over at Matt getting down on one knee. He said to me, “I’m not tying my shoe this time… Will you marry me?” I was in shock and with excitement said, “Yes, finally!” This set the tone for the already awesome trip and it became one of the best days of our lives!
